Shopify Adds Royal Mail Pickup Points: Can Dropshippers Use Them?

Yes, eligible UK Shopify dropshippers can offer Royal Mail pickup points at checkout, provided their suppliers and fulfilment arrangements support the service. The new option gives customers more flexibility over where they receive orders, but sellers should confirm delivery compatibility before enabling it.

Shopify announced the addition of Royal Mail as a UK pickup-point provider on 15 October 2026.

Customers can now select a convenient collection location during checkout, rather than having every order delivered to their home or workplace.

The feature displays available collection points on a map or list, together with their addresses, opening hours and delivery prices.

For independent online retailers, it’s another way to offer customers convenient delivery options.

However, for dropshippers who rely on third-party suppliers to dispatch their orders, there are a few important considerations.

How Do Royal Mail Pickup Points Work?

The feature allows customers to choose a Royal Mail collection location during Shopify checkout.

Instead of entering only a home delivery address, an eligible customer can select the option to have their parcel delivered to a pickup point.

They can then choose a location from the available options and see the delivery charge before completing their order.

According to Shopify’s announcement, the service is available through eligible UK fulfilment locations.

Royal Mail uses its Local Collect service for these deliveries, with two supported shipping options:

  • Tracked 24 with Local Collect: Target delivery on the next business day.
  • Tracked 48 with Local Collect: Target delivery within one to two business days.

Customers receive a notification when their parcel is ready to collect.

Shopify’s documentation states that Royal Mail holds uncollected parcels for 18 days before returning them to the sender.

Available collection locations include participating Post Office branches and Royal Mail Customer Service Points.

Why Could This Benefit Dropshippers?

I think the main benefit is straightforward: giving customers more choice over how they receive their orders.

Not everyone wants parcels delivered to their home.

Customers may be working during delivery hours, concerned about packages being left unattended or simply prefer collecting purchases at a convenient location.

Offering collection points gives those customers another option.

This could be particularly useful during busy shopping periods, when missed deliveries and unattended parcels become a concern.

There are also potential benefits for store owners.

1. More Convenient Delivery Options

Customers can choose a participating collection location that suits their circumstances.

That removes the need to rely exclusively on home delivery.

2. Greater Confidence When Ordering

Some customers may be reluctant to order products if they know they won’t be home to receive them.

A collection-point option could help address that concern.

3. Another Way to Improve the Checkout Experience

Delivery options can influence purchasing decisions.

Giving customers a choice between home delivery and collection may make a store more convenient to buy from.

However, Shopify hasn’t provided evidence that this particular Royal Mail integration increases conversions or reduces abandoned checkouts.

Those remain potential benefits rather than proven results.

The Important Question: Can Your Dropshipping Supplier Deliver There?

This is where I’d advise dropshippers to be careful.

Just because Shopify supports Royal Mail pickup points doesn’t mean your supplier automatically supports them.

For example, a supplier might advertise Royal Mail delivery without offering Royal Mail’s Local Collect service.

There is a difference between delivering a parcel through Royal Mail and correctly processing an order for a designated collection point.

Your supplier or fulfilment partner must be able to use the appropriate delivery service and receive the collection-point information from the order.

If they can’t, you risk accepting orders that cannot be fulfilled using the delivery method your customer selected.

That can lead to delays, refunds and unnecessary customer service problems.

Before enabling the feature, I suggest asking your supplier:

  • Do you support Royal Mail Tracked 24 or Tracked 48 with Local Collect?
  • Can you dispatch orders to customer-selected Royal Mail pickup points?
  • Will the selected pickup-point details be transferred correctly through our Shopify integration?
  • Are there any additional charges or restrictions?
  • How are uncollected parcels and returns handled?

Ideally, I’d also place a test order before making the delivery option available to customers.

That should help identify problems with order processing or the information passed to your fulfilment provider.

Which Shopify Stores Can Use the Feature?

Shopify’s Royal Mail pickup-point integration is designed for eligible UK fulfilment locations offering domestic UK delivery.

Shopify requires stores and fulfilment locations to meet its supported-country requirements, so operating outside the UK or simply using Royal Mail for international shipping doesn’t automatically qualify a store.

Eligible Shopify Plus stores may also support pickup points through custom applications, subject to separate requirements.

Shopify Plus merchants can also implement certain pickup-point arrangements through custom applications.

For ordinary dropshipping stores, the important requirements involve the fulfilment location, shipping setup and supported carrier.

There are also checkout limitations.

For example, Shopify states that pickup-point delivery requires all physical products in the basket to be eligible for fulfilment from one location.

The option is also unavailable when customers select certain accelerated checkout methods, including Apple Pay, Google Pay, Amazon Pay or PayPal, at the first checkout step.

Stores using app-managed shipping profiles should also check compatibility, as Shopify says pickup-point zones don’t automatically synchronise with those profiles.

These details matter particularly for dropshippers using several suppliers or automated fulfilment applications.

You can review the full requirements in Shopify’s pickup-point setup documentation.

How to Enable Royal Mail Pickup Points in Shopify

Shopify Pickup Location Settings

For eligible stores, Shopify provides a straightforward setup process.

  1. Open your Shopify admin.
  2. Go to Settings → Shipping and delivery.
  3. Find Pickup points under Additional delivery methods.
  4. Select your eligible UK fulfilment location.
  5. Enable Ship to pickup points from this location.
  6. Edit the delivery rate, select Royal Mail and configure the amount customers will pay.
  7. Save your settings.

Once configured, eligible customers can choose a collection location during checkout.

Shopify supports flat-rate, weight-based and price-based delivery charges for pickup-point services.

However, I wouldn’t recommend activating the option until you’ve confirmed your supplier can fulfil the orders correctly.

What About Dropshippers Using Overseas Suppliers?

For dropshippers shipping products directly from China or other overseas locations, this particular integration is unlikely to be suitable for those orders.

Shopify’s supported Royal Mail shipping services are domestic UK services.

That means a supplier using an international shipping service cannot automatically fulfil an order through Royal Mail Local Collect simply because the customer selected a UK pickup point.

Some overseas sourcing businesses also operate UK warehouses or use UK fulfilment partners.

If your supplier offers domestic UK dispatch, it’s worth checking whether its arrangements support Royal Mail’s collection service.

But don’t assume that a UK warehouse or a Royal Mail delivery option guarantees compatibility.

The exact fulfilment service matters.

My Advice: Check With Your Supplier Before Switching It On

I think this is a useful addition to Shopify, particularly for UK retailers looking to provide customers with more delivery flexibility.

But for traditional dropshipping stores, the benefit depends entirely on whether the fulfilment process supports it.

My recommendation is to start by identifying products dispatched from UK locations.

Then check which suppliers can genuinely support Royal Mail Local Collect and whether your Shopify integration transfers the required delivery details.

If everything is compatible, test the process before offering it to customers.

There’s no need to introduce another delivery option just because Shopify has made it available.

The goal isn’t to offer the largest possible selection of delivery methods. It’s to offer reliable choices that make buying from your store easier.

For dropshippers with suitable UK fulfilment arrangements, Royal Mail pickup points could be a worthwhile addition.

For everyone else, it’s a feature worth keeping in mind as supplier services and delivery integrations develop.
